MENTEE MONDAY
While a majority of our volunteers traveled home for winter break, a few remained in the area and kept our students engaged by hosting a Mentee Monday meeting, where they participated in our What Would You Do activity. In small groups, the students discussed fact patterns designed to get them thinking about the types of complicated situations they may face in high school or college.
Each of the groups did a wonderful job creating humorous and relatable skits, but more importantly, each girl was able to gain insight as to how to deal with complicated, but somewhat inevitable, situations. Mentee Skyy Roberts’ situation was related to low self-esteem, her takeaway from the skit was that she “should accept [herself] and not let anyone change [her].”
MEET THE MENTORS
This month we hosted a mentor orientation. Volunteers from Bowie State University, Howard University, and the University of Maryland mixed and mingled, but more importantly, gained the requisite knowledge and skills to be an amazing Imara Roose mentor.
